Committee 2000

ArtistAndy Warhol
MediumScreenprint on Lenox museum board
SigningSigned / numbered
Edition size2000
Dimensions76.2 x 50.8 cm (30 x 20 in)

This work from 1982 is an example of Warhol’s modern take on the traditional “still life” painting, in which ordinary objects are depicted in order to display an artist’s virtuoso. The brilliant blue, purple and vibrant hot pink coloring of the piece establish an extraordinary composition. The highly saturated colors are minimal in this particular print, and the exaggerated outlines of the subject matter imply a sense of movement. It is almost as if the glass had just tipped over with the other two perilously wobbling — the ground still buzzing with activity.

Femme couchée et homme à la guitare

ArtistPablo Picasso
MediumColor linocut on Arches paper
SigningSigned / numbered
Edition size50
Dimensions62 x 75 cm (24.4 x 29.5 in)

This exquisite linocut by Pablo Picasso is excitingly composed. Held in a rich brown tone and opaque shapes, the woman in particular is put in the spotlight. The lightly curved, light beige lines emphasize her feminine forms. Picasso uses simple shapes and lines to compose a complex pictorial composition. The lively depiction of the reclining nude seems to so enchant the musician sitting in a relaxed posture with its curves that the guitar in the lower right of the painting seems to be forgotten for the moment. The emphasis on femininity is one of Picasso’s typical pictorial themes.

FWe Are the Square Jocular Clan (4)

ArtistTakashi Murakami
MediumPrint on paper
SigningSigned / numbered
Edition Size300
Dimensions47.5 x 47.3 cm (18.7 x 18.6 in )

With his sensational and distinctively Japanese aesthetic, Takashi Murakami has firmly established himself on the international art scene. Inspired by the anime and manga culture of his homeland, he creates screamingly colorful paintings of unique recognizability. In the spirit of Pop Art, he blurs the boundaries between high and mass culture, affirmatively integrating marketing and consumption into his artistic concept. He moves between the spheres of art, design, and pop culture, for example when he collaborates with Louis Vuitton or designs an album cover for Kanye West. Murakami has presented at institutions including the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, MoMA PS1, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, among others, and his work has sold for millions on the secondary market.
